Vintage Bean Brewing Guide
Make better coffee, right from your kitchen.
We’re all about helping you enjoy amazing coffee—without needing fancy gear or a barista badge. Here’s a simple guide to our favorite brew methods using everyday kitchen tools and easy-to-follow steps.
Drip Coffee Maker
Great for: Easy mornings & daily routines
You’ll need: A standard coffee maker, medium grind, paper filter
How to brew:
• Use 2 tablespoons of ground coffee per 6 oz of water
• Add water to the reservoir and insert a fresh filter
• Scoop in your coffee and press start
Pro Tip: Use filtered water and clean your machine regularly—build-up can dull the flavor.
French Press
Great for: Weekend mornings & full-bodied flavor
You’ll need: A French press, coarse grind, hot water
How to brew:
• Add 8 tablespoons of coffee for a 32 oz (1-quart) press
• Pour in 4 cups of hot water (just off boil)
• Stir gently and steep for 4 minutes
• Press slowly and serve
Pro Tip: Always pour out leftover coffee right after brewing—it keeps the flavor fresh.
Pour Over
Great for: Bright, clean flavors & slow coffee moments
You’ll need: V60 or Chemex, medium-fine grind, filter, kettle
How to brew:
• Use 3–4 tablespoons of coffee per 12 oz of hot water
• Rinse the filter and add grounds
• “Bloom” the coffee with a little water and wait 30 sec
• Slowly pour the rest in circles over 2–3 minutes
Pro Tip: Control your pour speed for best results—don’t rush the magic!
Stovetop Moka Pot
Great for: Espresso-style brews without the machine
You’ll need: A Moka pot, fine grind, stovetop
How to brew:
• Fill the bottom chamber with water (just below the valve)
• Add 4–5 tablespoons of coffee to the basket (don’t tamp)
• Heat on medium and listen for the gurgle—then remove from heat
Pro Tip: Pull it off the burner early for smoother flavor.
Cold Brew
Great for: Smooth, iced coffee with low acidity
You’ll need: Coarse grind, pitcher or jar, filter
How to brew:
• Combine 1 cup of coffee with 4 cups of cold water
• Stir and steep in the fridge for 12–18 hours
• Strain into a clean container
Pro Tip: It’s a concentrate! Dilute 1:1 with water or milk when serving.
Espresso Machine
Great for: Lattes, straight shots & bold flavor
You’ll need: Espresso machine, fine grind, tamp
How to brew:
• Use 3–4 tablespoons of coffee for a double shot
• Tamp firmly and brew for 25–30 seconds
• You should get about 2 oz of espresso
Pro Tip: A balanced shot should take about the same time as a song chorus—adjust grind if it runs too fast or slow.
